D-Link Network Storage NAS Server
Storage product is demanding in this Internet and Multimedia world. Especially movie lover that like to download from Internet. There are hundreds or thousands of new movie keep coming out which eat up lots of disk space.
For multiple user or more than one computer devices, it is wise to store multimedia files (movies, songs, backup data) in NAS (Network Attached Storage). NAS refer to a storage space device that hook up directly on network without a computer. It is really convenient when come to sharing.
D-Link DNS-323 Features
D-link, a network devices manufacturer has release its NAS DNS-323 few months ago. DNS-323 has a simple, compact design with all the ports on the back.
- Support 2 SATA Hard Drive (3.5-inch) with RAID
- Gigabit Ethernet
- Act as Print server
- Support RAID 0, RAID 1, JBOD
- Extra: iTunes, FTP, DHCP Server
The extra features really add bonus to its price. How good it will be to hook it up on a wireless router and enjoy music streaming on iPod touch or print documents wirelessly.
On the front is the hard-drive bay cover that has the power button. Gigabit Ethernet, USB, and power supply on the back.

My two cents
If you have a NAS, I suggest you to set it up as RAID 1 (mirror set) instead of RAID 0 (stripe set). Since NAS is for huge storage purpose, I don’t think anyone will buy another backup device this it. Hence, It is wise to have a duplicate disk copy using mirror set (RAID 1) in case of any hard drive faulty.
I remember my first time to touch NAS is NetApp Filer. It cost more than $1 Million (RM) to set up whole complete system with shadow drive, replication, etc to name a few. Now the NAS solution is so common we can afford to have one at home!
Price start at $139 USD.
